If you are a maker from, or close to these locations, and you’d like to help deliver these requests, please contact [email protected] after you sign up for this event so we can put you in contact!  If you’re not from these locations and you just want to learn to build for your own knowledge and skill building, please order your parts online and 3D print your parts in advance of the event. See the event invitation below for links to buy parts. If your parts don’t arrive on time, we will have a recording of this video available after the event so you can follow along!

 

About Makers Making Change

Makers Making Change is an innovative community based initiative that connects makers to people with disabilities to create affordable open source assistive technologies What is an access switch? An access switch is a switch that allow a person with limited mobility to access devices like tablets, smartphones, computers, toys and other electronics. They come in all varieties depending on the capabilities of the individual. Why are we building an access switch? Access switches can be very costly devices. A typical commercial switch costs about $75-$200 which can be unaffordable to many people who do not have adequate insurance or for those who are low income. Makers Making Change has a library of open source assistive devices(switches being just one device) that are more affordable through open source designs and volunteer makers like you! The switches we will assemble at the event can be made for approx $20-25 in parts and will be distributed to people and organizations in the community who need them.
