Making for Social Good with SHAD McGill

Makers Making Change is partnering with SHAD Canada to facilitate an exciting full day event with SHAD participants at McGill University. Students will learn about assistive technology, accessibility, and how Makers Making Change works to achieve economic and social inclusiveness for all people with disabilities through community based Makers, Disability Professionals and Volunteers to develop and deliver affordable Open Source Assistive Technologies.

Students will participate in a presentation and discussion with Makers Making Change to expand their knowledge about technology and its possibilities. Students will then gain hands on skills building an assistive switch and be challenged to adapt toys to be compatible with their switches. The students will then research their home regions to explore the needs of assistive technology in their local communities and donate their assistive switches and adapted toys to disability organizations and hospitals to help meet those needs.
