NY Chapter: Proximity Switch Virtual Build

May 18, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

With only a few 3D-printed parts, a microcontroller, and some open-source code you can change someone’s life. Join the Makers Making Change NY Chapter in partnership with Zero Day Camp and Blythedale Children’s hospital for this free, virtual build event! Learn about the exciting world of D.I.Y. assistive technology through this hands-on Proximity Switch build event.

About the Build and Lending Library

We are developing a lending library of DIY Assistive Technology and need your help to create our starting inventory. This build will create our inventory of proximity switches in order to loan out to AT users here in NYC. If you are building this switch, we ask that you mail back the completed switch using the provided mailing label so we may add the device to our inventory.

About the Proximity Switch:

This is a relatively low-cost accessibility switch activated by waving over or very lightly pressing the activation area. The switch is well-suited for use by small movements of a finger or larger gross movements of a hand or limb. This switch will help a person with a disability with daily living, mobility, computer access, recreation, and leisure. Here’s more info: Makers Making Change Light Proximity Switch Page
