Glad to hear you’re interested in working on this project. I’m not sure if Maria will see this or not, since the Forum is newer than the original request.

The Amazon listing for the commercial product (https://www.amazon.com/The-Wright-Stuff-SoloGrip-One-Handed/dp/B00EQDOOV8, ~$40) says it has a 0.5″ diameter rubber pad in each of the four corners. I would think that you would want something similar so this can be positioned on the counter when needed and put away afterwards.

One of the products that is often used to provide a temporary non-slip surface is Dycem. (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Dycem-Non-Slip-Material-Forest-Green/dp/B002WQ7AB2, $20 for a 3 ft roll) It is fairly expensive, so may not be the best option here to keep the DIY version cheaper than the commercial version.
