Very cool idea. Using contact with water to activate sounds and encourage hand usage sounds very promising.
I could see a similar setup to illustrate differences in temperature with two containers of warm / cold water and suitable sounds / graphics.
I like musical water! I’ve made music with Audacity and mapped those mp3 sound files to key presses with an application called Soundplant! The downside is Soundplant doesn’t work on Chromebooks or ipads.

This teacher used Scratch to code sounds for this awesome Instructables: https://www.instructables.com/Water-Synthesizer-With-MakeyMakey-and-Scratch/
I also made a fraction generator with water- if you want to think of a way to incorporate this idea into your project: https://makeymakey.com/blogs/how-to-instructions/fraction-generator-with-makey-makey-and-scratch
