    This design was created by the team members of team Inspirational Kids, Nate, Cole, Caleb as part of the Make:Able Challenge. This device could use some improvements as it is quite difficult to print on a standard printer (such as an Ender 3). This is due to the model not sitting flat on the bed and being quite large since it is printed all in one piece.

    Device Intended Use
    The Assistive Scoop is a device designed to assist users in picking up objects off of the floor. This device is designed to assist individuals with spinal cord injuries. The handle of this device is a modified version of Makers Making Change’s Palm Pen Holder.

    Support Needed:
    We are looking for a volunteer to take the current design and improve the printability of the device while still ensuring the original usage for the device is maintained. Possibly splitting the STL into two parts or redesigning the model. All provided files from the team will be attached to this post.

    It should be pretty simple to separate the scoop into two parts:

    1. the scoop plus the rod,
    2. the handle.

    The rod should be hexagonal in cross-section.
    The handle should have a hexagonal hole in it where the rod is inserted (and potentially glued). The hexagonal hole should allow for several different orientations of the scoop relative to the handle.
    The whole thing could be printed without supports.
