Hi – my son has a disease called SMARD and has very limited use of his arms and hands, to the point that he can’t really manipulate a traditional joystick. We’ve been trying to find ways to make it easier for him to control a joystick with the Xbox Adaptive Controller and the virtual controller looks like it could be a perfect solution. Would love to know what I need to do to make this happen. Thank you!

Though my skills may or may not be up to the task of comprehensively building such a device, I would love to help.

I am somewhat familiar with the xBox adaptive controller, but not so with respect to the virtual joystick.  Let me talk to a colleague more familiar with Arduino.  Hopefully, he can help.
