Overview

The finger pencil holder is a low-cost, 3D-printed aid that holds a writing utensil and fits onto a finger. This 3D printed assistive device is useful for those with difficulty gripping and still have some movement in their wrist or hand. This vertical style can be used on the index, middle, ring, and pinky fingers.

Usage

Insert a suitably sized pen, pencil, or other writing instrument into the smaller portion of the holder, then insert the desired finger into the larger portion. Adjust the writing utensil’s position if necessary.

Build Instructions

The finger pencil holder consists of a single 3D printed component. No additional assembly is required.

The files and print settings for the 3D printed part are available on Thingiverse. A typical print uses about 3 g of filament and takes about 30 minutes.

Minimal post-processing is required. Remove any burrs and smooth any sharp edges.

Alternate Designs

There is also a parametric version of this design that was created using OpenSCAD. This versions makes it easier to modify and customize the size of the writing utensil holder portion and the finger portion.

There is a horizontal version of the finger pencil holder. This fits the index and thumb.
