Overview
Over 30 students helped design and 3D print an accessible periodic table display to celebrate the International Year of the Periodic Table. They learned and utilized TinkerCAD to create 3D-printable tiles that displayed the Braille and sign language for each element. Each tile is 127×127 mm (5 in x 5 in), creating an impressive 4 ft x 8 ft display!
A total of 118 chemical elements are in the periodic table, there are 118 3D printed models (tiles) plus two tiles of the representation of actinide and lanthanide series. All models have to print as they are due to the size of the standard Braille. If you would like to have individual components for any of the tiles for dual-color printing or scaling or other purposes, please contact us by sending emails to [email protected].
Build Instructions
Each tile takes 5-6 hours to print, and uses about 50 g of filament (~$1. 50), so creating the entire set will takeĀ 600-700 hours of printing and several rolls of filament (~$180). The individual stl files are available at the linked GitHub Repository.
